The Research Center of Chinese Rural Land Law (RCCRLL) is an institute of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL). The center was established in 2000 and presidented by Prof. Xiaojun Chen, a prestigious jurisconsult in civil and commercial law in China and a PhD supervisor of ZUEL. The center has seats for experts and scholars in diverse fields such as law, agronomics, social security, rural sociology, and so on. The center has been focusing on the research of Chinese rural land law and other correlative problems and achieved a series of high-quality productions which have proven extensive social effects.
Since 2001, RCCRLL has undertaken several projects financed separately by the Ministry of Education, Hubei Province and some Foundations. The projects include “Research on Rural Land Legislation” which is one of the Momentous Projects on Philosophy and Social Science organized by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, “Research on China’s Rural Land Law” which is one of the projects of the 10th 5-Year Plan of Humanities and Social Science Research also organized by the Ministry of Education, “Research on Local Legislation and the Right to the Contracted Management of Rural Land in Hubei Province” financed by the Local Legislation Research Center of Hubei Province which is one of the Main Research Bases of Humanities and Social Science in Hubei province and “Research on the System of Contracted Management of Rural Land and the Policy of Burden & Welfare under the Circumstance of the Relief of Agricultural tax and the Appreciation of Farm Produce” subsidized by Oxfam Hong Kong, and so on.
RCCRLL has achieved a series of high-quality productions of monographs and entries including “Research on Rural Land law”, “China’s Rural Land Contracting Law : How a Wrong Orientation Debases the Effectiveness of the Law”, “the Protection and Improvement of Women’s Right to the Contracted Management of Rural Land” and “Research on the Employment and Social Security Problems of Landless Farmers” based on the projects mentioned above.
Meanwhile, RCCRLL has established cooperated closely with many institutes working over “Farmers, Rural Areas, Agriculture”, and has submitted vast productions including legislative advices, investigation reports and research reports to official legislative and administrative organs such as Legislative Affairs Commission of National People’s Congress, Legislative Affairs Office of State Council, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Integrative Reform Group on Rural Area of State Council. These productions were highly appraised by the mentioned organs and most of them were officially accepted.
In addition, RCCRLL has formed several research bases and investigation spots in Hubei province, Heilongjiang province and Guizhou province and many other provinces across China, which establishes an extensive platform for the research of China’s rural land law.
